Hi, I’m Susie, and this is my husband, Tim. We’ve been with HFMC for about 12 years, and Phil’s been looking after us very well.

The first time I got in touch with Phil and HFMC was when I was leaving my job. I’d been with the same employer for nearly 20 years, and I’d never felt that I needed financial advice. I always had a view that I would earn enough to pay for what we needed. It was only at the point when I was taking a redundancy package that I needed financial advice about how best to invest it and how to live after leaving that job.

When we first spoke to Phil, I had some life changes going on: having kids, leaving a corporate job, and setting up my own business. I’d never been good at financial planning, so it was about having a plan for the future, whether it be pensions, mortgages, investing money for the kids for when they’re older, etc., we just wanted a plan so we could feel confident in our choices. 

We started working with Phil about 12 years ago when he worked for another company. We had a very good rapport and relationship with Phil; he got to know us well, and we got to know him well. So, when Phil moved, we moved with him, as it were, and have been working with him ever since.

He’s really got to know not just us, but also our family and our businesses as we’ve developed them. Phil’s been through a number of different life stages with us now, and that’s what we’ve really appreciated. Phil has helped us navigate through those life stages and life changes, which we really needed some help with. I feel more confident in what the future holds for us than I ever have. I wouldn’t have known how to make a plan for the future without having worked with HFMC and Phil, so seeing the plan and understanding what we’ve got put aside for different life events as they come at us over the course of our lives gives us a great degree of confidence and makes us feel as though we can get on with leading our lives as we choose to, knowing that the financial backing we need is there.

One of the best things about working with Phil, apart from the fundamentals of having a plan which I would not have had otherwise, is the fact that he really concentrates on what we want and understands us as people and our needs as a family. It’s financial planning that really takes our lives into account. He understands us, and we’ve built a relationship, which is where I think the confidence comes from, because he knows us very well. 

The best piece of advice Phil has given us throughout all the years is… you can get bogged down with numbers and decisions, but actually, it’s the bigger picture advice, I think he once said something like, “Life is for living. All of this is for a reason – for maximising a lifestyle.” and that’s always rung true with me. It does help us live a better life because we have a plan.

Yes, I definitely would recommend HFMC and Phil, and indeed we have done to a number of our friends who’ve also been really happy with the advice and service they’ve been given. The key reason I would recommend them is due to the fact that over the years we’ve been given really good support, really good advice, and it has set us up for being in a good position to enjoy our remaining years.
